The December 2008
Recipe of the Month
Holiday Cookies
Here is a fun recipe for M&M®-type cookies that does not scorch the candies. You're adding enough ingredients to make the cookie dough a melange of chocolate and nuts. The festive colors of these chocolate candy laden cookies will bring a bright cheer to the holidays. We thank Molly S. for these treats.

Ingredients
|
- 1 cup (two sticks) butter or margarine, at room temperature
- 3/4 cup dark brown sugar, packed
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 eggs, at room temperature
- 2 1/4 cup plus 1 Tablespoon flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup broken or chopped walnuts
- 8 ounces (1 cup) M&M®-type chocolate candies, plus

Directions

- You will not need to preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit until you are ready to bake. The cookies chill for one hour first. Prepare cookie sheets by either greasing or lining them with parchment paper.
- Cream butter and both sugars together until smooth and a bit fluffy.
- Mix in vanilla, stir.
- Beat in eggs, mixing until very smooth.
- Add flour, salt, and baking soda, mixing until smooth.
- Last, add the broken nut meats, and the two types of
chocolates. Stir just until mixed.
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least one hour to
firm it all up.
- Place by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets, or
use parchment paper on the cookie sheets.
- Bake about 9 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit but do not overbake.
