Recipe of the Month

The '98 World Tour

We're still in Mexico this month and will round out our recipe collection with a delightful Mexican drink that's easy to make.

Have an interesting foreign recipe that uses chocolate? "Send it in. We'll squeeze it into our travel itinerary."

Mexican Chocolate Drink

Ingredients

  • 2 squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 2 tspns cinnamon
  • 2 cups strong coffee
  • 2 tspns hot water
  • 3 cups hot milk
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tspn vanilla
  • 1/2 tspn Salt
Directions

Place chocolate and hot water in saucepan. Cook over low heat until the chocolate melts. Combine the sugar, salt, and cinnamon and add to the chocolate. Add coffee and stir until smooth. Cook 5 minutes longer. Add the vanilla to the hot milk and stir well. Add the mixed hot milk and vanilla to the chocolate mixture. Cook over low heat for 10 minutes to blend the flavors.

Whip to a froth and serve.
