The July 2005 Recipe of the Month Really Cool Summer Hot Chocolate For those hot summer days when it's too stifling to use the oven, here's an easy and simple recipe that makes an iced chocolate drink that can be served by itself or mixed with iced coffee. It's easy to make, a pleasant cooler and not as rich as a drink made with milk, sugar, and extra doses of chocolate. We thank Gretta Mollenhauer of Chicago, Illinois, for this recipe.
Ingredients 1 cup water 1 cup milk 2 Tablespoons grated semisweet chocolate 1 Tablespoon sugar, or to taste (depending on the chocolate used) (A dash, and a dash only, of vanilla or orange extract for flavor adds variation, but do not use the orange if you are using this drink with iced coffee. --Ed.) Directions In a heavy pan combine and mix the ingredients. Bing to boil, stirring constantly to avoid ruining the milk or clumping the grated chocolate. Cool.   Serve in small portions over ice, or add to iced coffee with a froth of milk. Or drink while warm and visualize a cool, brisk Autumn day! Enjoy!
