The March 2005 Recipe of the Month Ultra-Strong Hot Sipping Chocolate We thank Claudette Robinson for this delightful and pretty cold weather remedy. Sip this in demitasse or other tiny cups, as it is very strong and very chocolatey!
Ingredients 1 1/2 cups milk 1/2 cup good-quality semisweet chocolate chips or broken chocolate bits 2 tablespoons ground chocolate powder (such as Ghirardelli ®) OR mix 2 teaspoons high-quality cocoa powder and 4 teaspoons of sugar INSTEAD of using the ground chocolate powder A drop of brandy or cognac if you prefer Directions Using a good saucepan over very gentle heat, mix all ingredients (using either the ground chocolate OR the cocoa/sugar mixture, but not both!!!!) and whisk until smooth. As the chocolate chips melt, it will get a bit sticky, but continue to whisk over gentle heat, and everything will meld perfectly. Heat a bit more, to hot drinking temperature (not too hot) and remove from heat. Serve in demitasse cups, as this is very very strong! If topping off, use whipped cream, not marshmallows, on account of the sugar already in the drink. Note: If too strong or too sweet, add a bit of milk and continue whisking. If too creamy, add a bit of water and whisk.   Enjoy!
